The flood situation is likely to worsen in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts in the next 24 hours. Besides, flood situation in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajganj, Jamalpur, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari and lower Rangpur districts may also deteriorate.

The report highlights the river situation and forecasts, saying that the water levels of all major rivers in the country except Surma are rising. According to the meteorological forecasts based on mathematical models, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain in the next 72 hours in the northern part of the country, northeast and adjoining parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. As a result, the water level of major rivers including Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Ganga-Padma, Kushiyara, Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar will continue to rise in 48 hours. In 24 hours, the water level of the river Teesta can be near or above the level of danger level.

Old Surma in Sunamganj, Brahmaputra in Kurigram, Dudhkumar, Dharla, Bogra and Jamuna in Sirajganj, Someshwari and Kangs in Netrokona, Surma in Sylhet, Kushiyara in Sarigowain and Khowai are crossing the river till 9 am today.

Flood situation

The report highlighted the flood situation in Sylhet and said that at present the waters of Surma, Kushiyara, Sarigoin and Khowai rivers are flowing over the danger line at all points. However, the water of Surma river has started decreasing. Many people are in waterlogged condition. The district administration and the Bangladesh Army are carrying out rescue operations for the waterlogged people. River water continues to rise in Sunamganj. 70 shelters have been opened in Dharmapasha of the district.

A total of 31,890 people and 12,000 houses from 6,230 families in 39 unions of six upazilas of Netrokona (Durgapur, Kalmakanda, Barhatta, Madan, Khaliajuri and Mohanganj) have been affected.
