If you love wine and enjoy trying ones you’ve not tasted before, Wineing is the place for you. This cosy and atmospheric bar in the buzzy Palma district of La Lonja offers something different: ‘la tapa de vino’.
Here you can try a wide range of wines without having to fork out for whole bottles to do so. And each of the wines is in peak condition, thanks to an innovative wine delivery system. If technology doesn’t float your boat, the opportunity to help yourself from a huge choice of wines should please you. Ask for one of the special cards – containing a microchip – which becomes both your key to a journey of wine discovery and a hi-tech form of bar tab. A member of the friendly staff will explain how it all works (don’t worry, it’s simple).
Choose from more than 48 wines, each kept at the optimum temperature. Of course, you should try some of the top Mallorcan wines on offer, but you’ll also be tempted by carefully selected whites, rosés, and reds from the key wine-producing regions of the Spanish peninsula, other European countries, and the New World. The choice of wines includes notable labels such as Pingus, Vega Sicilia, and Château Belair – not generally available by the glass in bars.
The machine dispenses a choice of measures: a mouthful, half a glass, or a full glass – but you can also have a whole bottle of any if you wish. Prices for each quantity are clearly shown.
Wineing also offers food. The menu offers a good selection of tasty tapas, some salads, pittas and wraps, and a few fish and meat dishes. And if you like to indulge in some cheese when you’re tasting wines, take a look at their choice of cheeses – including a ‘tabla de quesos’ cheese plate for around 10 euros.
The ambience and service are both friendly at the Swedish-owned Wineing – which is under the same ownership as La Palma and Chez Camille, also in La Lonja.
